Chickens won't eat them. I can see why, they are too big to gulp down

I see whole kernel corn and yes those round little balls are soybeans. Go on Ebay and buy a small roller mill. Im a retired dairy farmer so l kinda have seed knowledge. I run all my scratch grains thru a roller mill.

It's very similar to yours, except my free range birds don't eat the pellets, so I usually get the version with all grains instead.

When I answered 'dun pea' the first time, it's because that's the ones in my case, but then I realised that dun pea is probably an Australian thing.

If the supplier has not specifically remarked it's a particular kind of pea (because it's pricey but highly nutritious), I would assume it's the most available field pea for livestock in your area for that period being.

BTW, My hens don't like dun peas too.

I also feed my flock a natural homemade diet based on grains and legumes. To boost protein I add some race pigeon mix, and it has these whitish round peas and those ginormous black faba beans. My chickens have zero issues swallowing them.

Raw soy is toxic so soy seeds are never added to bird seed mixes. Soy must be processed and roasted to be edible.

I believe in America these are called pigeon peas. I've seen them used in both chicken and pigeon feeds for their high protein content (22-27%) and used as an alternative to soybean meal. However, I've read the following: "Raw pigeon peas may have low palatability. Processing methods like roasting or boiling improve digestibility and consumption."

True. I grew up next to and across from fields that were planted in soybeans every 2-3 years. They were always perfectly round.

They're peas. If your chickens leave them behind, dump them into a flat pan (like a black rubber hog feeding pan) and wet them down. Your birds will likely gobble them down once they start to sprout!
