I'm not so sure about taking them outside. At least not until they get a little older and can stand a little lower temperature. Generally the temperature is high 60's to mid 70's. On a few days it gets up to low 80's, but here lately generally not that high. My main concern is the wind. Every single day for a good two or three weeks has been super windy. I think they may get too cold with the wind. We have dogs and cats, but they aren't allowed even near the chicks. We own one of the houses right beside us as well, and the other is a rent house and the people living there now have no dogs and are in the process of moving out. We have stray cats, but I have never seen any manage to climb the high fences into the backyards. Though I hadn't planned on leaving the chicks unattended for even a second. We can't really move the ground since the lamps are clipped onto the brooder itself. We put a higher watt bulb in one lamp and put another lamp on in case the first one burned out in the middle of the night. With both lamps, one higher watt and one lower watt bulb, the temperature is where it should be.
