What are those 'plastic' things on the sides of the chicken's heads?

I thought they were cheeks!!! I have a black silkie roo and he has bright purplish blue ear lobes and I named him "Balou"...but thanks to BYC I now know that they are his ear lobes!!!

No, earlobe color has no effect on the color of eggs. Gypsy has white ones and she lays brown eggs. Ethel has white ones and lays a whitish egg. Carmelita has red ones and lays whitish eggs.

It doesn't have an effect on the color of the eggs, but it's a pretty good indication of what the egg color will be.
