Just bought these, gave $2.50 each, they are suppose to be young, they are good layers, gave me eggs the first day I brought them home, large, med. brown eggs with speckles. They are big, slow and waddle when they walk.

One word....WOW! They look to be a cross of some sort. They have white lobes, which eliminates a full blood white rock. But the lobes and comb say leghorn, but the body says no. I say a cross...

I was thinking cornish crosses from my research but I don't know much about chickens, I can't lift them, they are way too heavy. They came from an Amish sale.

They do look like cornish crosses, if they are you will struggle to get them over 1-2 years of age as they grow much too fast for their legs to handle. don't leave food out for them free choice as they will eat and eat till their crop restricts their blood flow and they have a heart attack (called flip in meat bird circles) - your best bet really is to process them now (if you eat chicken) or pay for them to be processed at a local place, if you really want to keep them then be prepared for a relatively short time with them, and just watch what they eat!

Some kind of meat bird. My first chicken was one just like those that had fallen off a slaughter truck. I crossed her with a RIR roo and got some awesome sex-link crosses. The roos were white and hens were red. The offspring make great eating birds as they grow fast, but not enough to make them have problems. Very tame birds also.

They are very tame and sweet birds, I really appreciate all of this good information. I have been keeping food with them, I will take it away. I guess I will have to make a decision on what to do with them, as long as they are laying nice big eggs, I may just keep them. They are the only hens that I have that are laying right now.

I left food out for mine all the time. She never had any problems, besides being to big to fly up to the roost pole. She'd go into the coop half an hour early just to try getting up there, but she'd just give up and i'd put her up.lol
