What are you adding to your flock this year?

Pics
Broody went broody on the coldest day of December. 8 chicks since I thought the eggs weren't fertile. 8 out of 24 in the incubator wasn't far from wrong. January hatch doing well.

Friend asked me to hatch a sole silkie egg right as these were hatching. Add 6 regulars and 6 hatched (silkie hatched 3 days after the other 5!). Figure the silkie and a pullet to return to friend's flock, I'll be adding 8 + 4 - cockerels to the flock. Cockerel count is 3 confirmed from January hatch and the February hatch isn't certain.

Chicken math includes subtraction. However, I've got too many eggs right now. 🤭

Breed - Backyard surprise are the best. You never know what you will get. The 2022 additions are black (Ayam Cerami, leghorn, Easter Egger blood). The 2023 additions from same flock with some red birds added, new rooster are 7 white with pink highlights and 1 black. Oldest hen is a Dominquer. I got my black and white flock.

Best wishes to all!

Just got 4 sebrights these were a little unexpected(do not go to tsc alone). I am getting 6 Andalusians, 2 red colored hens that may be larger but similar to a welsummer that i forgot their name, 4 call ducks, some indian runner and welsh harlequins. Going from a small three bird flock to 3 seperate flocks. The andulusians, the reds(all red welsummer like chickens), and bantams. The two bigger flocks containing some ducks. And bantam well all the smaller birds.

Now 10 have hatched 😆
17 total ended up hatching, and I just sold 4. Im gonna keep the remaining 13 and maybe sell some more in a few months. Out of 9 Serama eggs, 7 hatched so that is pretty good. One of the Serama chicks is white with a brown back so im very curious about what it will turn into. Only one Wheaten Marans has hatched and I think it is the only one that will hatch there is nothing in the other Marans eggs. So far there is also an easter egger, an olive egger, and 3 Ameracanas. But here is the weird thing, 2 of the Ameraucanas are grey and one is darker so I'm pretty sure its a lavender and a blue, but another Ameraucana hatched this morning and it is Black! In my breeding flock I only have lavender and splash Ameraucanas so I should only be getting lavender and blue chicks. Anyone know how I got a black one? I had a blue easter egger in with them too so maybe that could be the mother? 🤔

Looks like I've added both Gold and Silver Laced Wyandotte, Barred Plymouth Rock and Delaware to the flocks this year.

I'm still looking for quailty LF Buckeye, Welsummer and Barnevelder eggs. So if y'all know of anyone....😉

Oh, and I'm also adding Black Sex Link and Cinnamon Queen, both of which I've had before but it's been a few years - although those are more for my son who is just wanting some layers.

Well I know my plan for this year was to add a few of my own hatched chicks for my breeding plans and add some additional breeding pullet stock. However…what I’ve done instead…

This year i have added some Shetland Hen chicks (don’t ask me why). I am bummed bc I had 4 55 Flowery Hen chicks (2 of each) coming from Greenfire this week and she said she could not ship. Trying to see if she will give me a different date. I really hope so
Well I'm happy bc Greenfire Farms, just a week late, shipped me more 55 Flowery Hens than I ordered! I had filled out my order with cream legbars, but after consulting with me and seeing what was most important to me, she sent all 55 Flower Hens. Now I just hope they make it in the mail, but here in CA HEAT is usually and issue and right now it won't be.

Australorps, black. Probably incubated. I am suffering through sticker shock for the incubator that I want. Went up $30 in twinkling of an eye. I did not have the funds for it a couple of weeks ago though.
No longer a problem as I decided to purchase chicks vs incubate. I noticed some sad faced emojis at my initial response so I decided to text this update.

"Lemon blue" - sounds interestingly beautiful. Would love to see a specimen.
