What are you baking now?

Mmmm, it all just sounds so yummy! I bake a little sumpin' every weekend this time of year, even if it's just frozen pumpkin pie or something like that. Last night, I tried a recipe for sugar-free walnut brownies that actually came out pretty good! It was nice and rich. It had a 3rd unplanned egg yolk, though. The recipe called for 2 eggs, and when I cracked open/dropped in the 2nd egg, it turned out to be a double-yolker! I was stoked!

Those look like cookies that I make from a long time fmaily recipes. Are they made with cake mix and cool whip ? ?

If so, they are totally delicious when done with the LEMON cake mix.

No these are not a cake mix... but I have made crinkle lemon cookies from a cake mix.

Sandee, that is the recipe I use. I had gotten my yeast from KAF, and I keep it in the fridge. It isn't out of date. The recipe calls for 125 degrees, and that what I did. Do you use the microwave to warm your milk and water? Mmaybe that is killing the yeast when I add it to the flour mixture?
BTW, what's the weather like in CA. Cold? If so, I can send you the rhubarb, since it's frozen. It's freezing here! (we need an icon that denotes shivering!)

I knew your yeast would be OK. I read in one of my bread books that salt will kill the yeast if it comes in contact with it. I usually mix the yeast around in the flour to help with that. I don't remember how I do the milk but I probably just heated it on the stove. Since most bread recipes call for 100-110 degree liquid may be try lower the temperature and see if that helps since heat also kills the yeast. I also looked at the reviews on All Recipes and no one mentions having problems with too hot of liquid so I don't know. Here is a pitcure of how high mine gets.

The weather is cold (average 52 degrees really not that cold but this California) and rainy here. When do you plant the rhubarb? If you plant it now - go ahead and send and we'll get in right when we get it. Also, do you think deer will eat it since we have tons of them. I can put it in the fenced garden if they do. Make sure you let me know how much money I need to send you.

Good luck with the bread.

Sandee, my bread looks NOTHING like yours! Do you mix the salt with your dry ingredients? Maybe it's my flour. I'm using KAF whole wheat white flour. It looks like a mix of whole wheat and white. I'm not sure if I like it or not.
If it doesn't freeze there, you could probably plant it anytime. I'm not sure about the deer. The leaves are poisonous, but I don't know if it is to deer.

Mmmmm... chocolate bark with dried cherries sounds sooo yummy.

Sandee, your bread looks delectable! Makes me want to jump in my car right now and come for a visit! I'm about 7 hours away, see you soon!

Chocolate crinkles are always a hit here, I usually add them to my christmas cookie baskets. My recipe is almost the same except I add toffee chips. The chips do melt when baking but still add a nice flavor to the cookie.

NurseELB fresh egg quiches are the best! You are making me so hungry! I can just smell them baking.

Well, I never finished my chocolate yesterday... but I am going to go back and make more biscotti today.

I'd like to make some banana bread, as I all of a sudden was craving some this morning.

OK, Sandee! I made my bread again. Same thing. I warmed the milk and water on the stove instead of the microwave. I made sure my yeast was at room temp. I used all bread flour instead of white whole wheat mixture. I added the salt RIGHT before I added the liquid. I think I'm going to buy some new yeast and try that. If that's what it is, I'm going to be upset, 'cause I bought that yeast from KAF not that long ago, and I was keeping it in the fridge

Jen, what kind of salt did you use? Salt with Iodine will kill yeast. I only use sea salt without Iodine.
