What are you baking now?

Teresa, we get $3.00 for quick breads in the mini-loaf size at other markets close to you. Usually I get 5 or 6 mini loaves from any typical quick bread recipe that makes two 9x5 or 8x4 loaves.

Samples also work well. Usually if people can taste one or two, they'll pick a variety to buy. Traditional Banana Nut and Zucchini loaves are the most popular in our experience. I never go without those two, we have regulars who look for them every week.

I made an Eierliquor Torte today. It is flourless and made with ground hazelnuts, shaved chocolate and 8 eggs, brandy and rum. The topping is whipped cream and the yellow top is an egg liquor. It is my MIL's recipe and she passed away in December, so I wanted to cheer up my DH. I just had a piece and I think I got a buzz!

That is a beautiful torte! Would you mind posting the recipe? I am sorry to hear about your MIL's passing. I hope having some of of her torte/kucken will cheer your DH up a bit. What a sweetie you are to make it for him.

peeplessinNC - I just tried this recipe for English Muffin Bread and it was pretty easy and fast. I used my Kitchen Aide mixer for the mixing. I was doing something else and didn't watch and heated the milk too long and got dough instead of a batter (but bread was still very good). So I ended up using the dough hook attachment but if I did it right you should use the paddle attachment since it is a batter. But I'm trying it again tonight and will watch the milk closer and let you know how it comes out. I'm also going to split into mini loaf pans.

One reviewer said that she used a can - I thinking may be like tall baked beans can and make them round. Might be an eye catcher for selling at market. I'm so jealous that you get to sell homemade things at farmers market. Good old California Laws say you can only sell if made in a Certified Kitchen

and they cost $800.00 a month to rent here in our area.

So I just sell in darken allies to friends and family.

TipsyDog that looks great and a good recipe for using up extra eggs if you have them - my girls are only giving up about 3 eggs a day right now. That's why we added 24 more chickens to our flock for next year. They will arrive on 2-22-10

. I need to bake a cake for my other 10 hens whose Birthday is Valentine's Day.

Sorry to hear about your Mother-in-Law and it was nice of you to think of your husband and help cheer him up.

I too would love to have the wheat less torte recipe. It looks wonderful!

It just dawned on me that I do not have any family recipes. Just grandma's oatmeal cookie recipe.

But it makes me think that I really need to ask for my mother in laws favorite recipes, and then ask my aunt and my cousins too.
family cook book time!
I could put them on a disc, and give them as a Christmas present.

That is a wonderful idea!

I would also suggest you ask them to hand write them. I am horribly sentimental and I love to see my late mother-in-law's handwriting on her favorite recipes.

It would also make a great scrapbooking project.

That would be so special! I would LOVE to have something that was in my grandmothers handwriting. maybe my aunt has something that she'd let me photo copy. There are wonderful papers to use... oh...now see what you've done!

Sorry-hijacked the thread! When I get started, I'll make a new 'cookbook/genealogy' thread!
And now...back to torte envy!

You all are sooo sweet and sooo sentimental! I have a copy of my grandmother and grandfather's marriage certificate and love to look at the beautiful handwriting on it but never thought to get recipes hand written. What a wonderful idea!

3goodeggs you are right! That would make a wonderful christmas gift, even if you don't have them handwritten. It's important to not lose these wonderful family recipes!

PeeplessinNC, I used to have a recipe for zucchini bread that I changed by adding drained pineapple and carrots. I also cut out half of the sugar and added honey then used whole wheat flour instead of white (which helped absorb the liquid from the honey) to make a dense but super moist quick bread! It was to die for with cream cheese!

Alas I lost the recipe after I had spent so much time perfecting it and I haven't had the energy to experiment with it all over again yet (or a great recipe to use as a jumping off point). But if anyone has a recipe for zucchini bread that they would like to share I might get the umph up to try again.
