What are you drinking?

Ommegang brews beer for the HBO series Game of Thrones. I've tried two, they have brewed many more so far. They are 8-10$ a bottle 750ml. 'Take the black Stout' was brewed with star anise and licorice root, yummy. 'Valar Morghulis' is a Belgian dubbel ale. It's name means "all men must die" kinda worried me, the wife gave it to me for a Christmas present. It was very good though. Their Three Philosophers Quadruple Ale is divine, they also cave age their Hennepin farmhouse saison in Howes Caverns, brewed with grains of paradise coriander ginger and sweet orange peel.

Betcha most of ya havn't seen this one. Sold at Stewerts gas stations. They sell the best icecream also, tons of different flavors, better than Friendly's and still a real half gallon! This beer says it is "A very cool brew" 'Mountain Ice'. The town I get it in, Oneonta is a college town, ya think it is marketed towards them? They sell singles 12oz .75cents each and a six pack costs $2.99.

My husband and I are beer novices, but branching out. We enjoy trying different brews. Probably once a month he will pick out a sixer of the mix and match bottles for fun. And we just got our first "Growler" over New Year's. This one was not my cuppa tea, but DH loooooves the dark and bitter beers. I gave him a brewing kit for Christmas and it has been sitting while we juggle life but he has a day off here in between swings and mids and its high time we pull everything out and get a project brewing.

You posted some really neat information here. I am interested to try this GW recipe you have and ya know, both my husbands family and my mothers side are all from NEPA and I never knew about this type of sandwich! Thanks for some great ideas! Adding this to my subscriptions for sure.

Oh, and today the kegerator is dispensing Miller Light. DH prefers the dark beers (Guinness) and Lagers. In the winter, we enjoy pub style fare with our beer like DH's killer hot wings or my chili.

I prefer the dark beers also, I will be brewing a Russian Imperial style Stout soon that I put the ingredients together myself, not a pre-packaged. Nothing against malt kits, it's just a once you've brewed for awhile and know what you need, like, to buy everything separate its a little cheaper also. I'll be posting pics of my process as soon as it warms up here. It's been subzero and the wife doesn't like me boiling beer in the house. Not only does she hate the smell, but I've had a couple bad boil overs all over her stove Lol.
So I do it out in the garage with the door open using the side burner on our barbecue grill.

Had oatmeal for breakfast the other day Lol, worked 2nd and 3rd shift. Got home at 6am. Oatmeal stouts are milder than Irish stouts if you've never had one. Samual Smiths brewed in Britain I believe makes a excellent one.

This one wasn't bad, but nowhere near as good as some others I've tried. Stouts should have a nice creamy head, this one didn't. ?

I'm not a beer drinker, DH used to be but doesn't drink beer much in winter time.
DH likes wine also, nice dry reds. If I drink wine it has to be a light, sweet, fruity wine.
I am so glad to be back in Wisconsin where I can order a Whiskey Old fashioned and not have the bartender give me a blank look. I am a whisky girl.

I don't drink much wine anymore, had a time where I really liked it but, you can't drink it like beer, got myself in trouble

. I never cared for the dry reds, always preferred (hold on now you can see I'm not a wine connoisseur ) whites and pinks. But I never liked dark beers back then and now I love them, maybe its time to try again.
What's your favorite whiskey? Mine of course is Jack, but it's $ for me so I don't buy it often usually I get Evan Williams green label. Being more of a beer drinking I try to stay away from the hard stuff also, same as wine, can't drink it like Kool-Aid Lol! My brother bought me a liter of Jim Beam Devils Cut not to long ago for working on his truck for free. It was awesome! I was planning on savoring it for a while. Had a few beers, few shots, next day 3/4 of it was gone! Good thing I didn't work until second shift. Guys at work said your supposed to pace yourself, I said I did, only drank one shot at a time. Boy was that a rough day at work.

wyoDreamer , What kind of dog is in your avatar? Reminds me of the Llewellin Setter my inlaws had.

You nailed it on the head - he is a Llewellin Setter. not many people even know an English Setter

He was a rescue - sorta. I saw an ad in the paper "for Sale" and the thought of him being locked in the backyard of the postage stamp lots in town about broke my heart. We had 10 acres in the country, 1 acre fenced for the dogs, and already owned an Irish Setter, so he seemed to be a good fit. Not that we needed another dog, but we picked him up anyway. He was 11 months old, had been adopted twice out of the shelter and brought back within 2 weeks both times before the guy's girlfriend got him. The guy knew what he had, but he got a promotion at work and realized he didn't have time anymore to train him as needed.
My mom and dad came to visit not long after getting him. My Dad saw him and just stopped and stared. It turns out my grandpa raised champion LLewellin's. He won a number of field trials with his dogs. I never met my grandpa, but I thought he raised springer spaniels so that was neat to find out.

I have always favored Kessler's whiskey. Affordable, but good; got started on that in my teens. That and the Canadian whiskeys - Canadian Club, Canadian Mist. My DH won a bottle of Makers Mark at his bonspiel, that is some pretty good stuff.
We have quite a selection at our place. One of my new favorites is the Seagrams with Honey. The bottle of Southern Comfort doesn't fit in that cabinet, it is about 1 inch too tall, ha. Southern Comfort is the best medicine for a sore throat.
