Just LOOK AT THE POSITIVEdidn't know you had a dog CAVEMAN. What kind? BTW you didn't miss anything by not getting to attend the Pow Wow. I went to look for genuine Native American crafted items. The several vendors basically had the same stuff, except for a couple that had apparel.
No prices on most items so I turned some over to check for a tag - it just said ORIENTAL TRADING COMPANY. As far as I can tell there aren't any Native American's working for them. Oriental used to send me catalogs when I was in my 20's (oh my they are still in business)
I can understand that Natives they are working in fields that pay much better and hopefully give them the security of health insurance and paid vacation etc.But thought some would want to keep native crafting skills alive.Maybe their children do.
A kid and his father/grandfather followed me around. The first thing he did was try out as many flutes as he could. I knew I didn't want any that he sampled. One of the booths had good looking flutes that had I believe, a spirit animal on them. I wanted to see what all of them had first. Of course when I went back - no flutes. They were $ 15. I know that isn't the price of a good one but, wanted to start out cheap and see if I'm capable of making anything other than noise.
They were supposed to have a gentleman playing the flute but, apparently he never showed up. Very disappointing. Also a parade of disabled veterans, veterans, police, fire department,Native American Chiefs, Princesses etc. They kept calling them to the podium but NO show!
My sister lives in NM and there is a reservation near her. My brother brought home a souvenir for me that was a small carved wooden rooster. It has a tag that said who made it. I choose to believe it is kosher. I will see if my sister can take brother to a place he could find real items for me. He visits her next month. I am not a traveler unless I can walk somewhere. 33 miles in one day was my limit years ago.(one time)
PS I suppose Santa buys his toys on Amazon.SMH
