What Are You Paying for Feed?

I'm paying alot $15.00 for chick starter, and around $14.00 for layer pellets. Scratch is about $11.50 My "local" feedstore doesn't even carry very high quaility feed, my chickens prefer the TSC feed, but we hardly ever buy it b/c we never go to the town that carries it.

We pay $1/kg (roughly 50 cents per lb) for grower and go through 5kg/11lbs about every 2 weeks. Once we're on the grain mix for layers ( my 4 chickens will be laying in about 2 weeks! woot!), it's something like $10 for 15kg. (33lbs)

I feel bad for paying so little, lol those prices are ludicrous.! I feed the local feed store brand and lots of scraps and grass

I pay 13 even I believe for a 50 lbs bag of layer pellets, blue seal. I suppose I should find a local mill, how does one go about doing that anyway? The place I buy the blue seal from is the Amish, who I believe mill their own feed, or at least horse and cattle feed.

I am currently feeding a feedmill brand KTA of layer pellets with 16% protien, and I called them today to see if they had anything with higher protien in it. They told me they have one with 22% protien and it is accually almost a dollar cheaper than what I am paying for the 16%. I paid 13.45 for the bag I have now.

Bless my "local" feed store! I finally got over to Family Feed in Box Springs, GA. 16% layer pellets are approx $10.50/ 50#!!! So much better than $14.50 at TSC. I wish I'd checked them out sooner!

Grower crumble is also cheaper by a few bucks (and wasn't full of bugs like the last 2 bags of Dumor I bought). They even loaded my car for me!!! I think I'm in love!

There is a local farm/garden store that I use to buy most of my feed: I get 50# of layer pellets for around 11.00 and 50# of chick starter for 10.50. But, if I have coupons I will buy Layena Plus at TSC for 12.99 for 40# because they eat it better. But, I supplement mine with kitchen scraps and free range an hour or two a day.
