What are you using to secure hardware cloth?

Depending on what the hardware cloth was attaching to, we used either nuts and bolts with washers or lag bolts with washers. Where it attached to wood (the coop windows and under rafter ventilation spaces), we first attached the hardware cloth with long staples every 1/4 inch or so, then screening with wood laths over it.

I sure hope staples are ok... cause that's what we used. Of course, we only used chicken wire on the run too - not hardware cloth. I'll probably reinforce it piece by piece, but hopefully the wire and staples work for now. (fingers crossed)

Us too! I LOVE the pneumatic stapler! And the staples are nice and long, too. Might not be as strong as washers and screws, but it is very easy to put in a ton of them to make up for the lesser strength.

I used mostly screws with washers and some "poultry staples" - u-shaped nails with very sharp points.

That is what we used too. It was a blast firing those things into the wood. I put a ton of them all around the cloth we used to cover the vents.

Well thank you ALL for your replies! I think screws and washers are the most feasible for me right now. I also like the idea of putting 1x2's over top of the wire. We are hoping to build the Fort Knox of runs!

We used both of these methods depending on where the wire was - on windows we used the wood over the wire and it served as trim/a way to keep the sharp edges from being a danger (mostly to me) On the front, we used the screws with washers...well...to conserve wood really. So far....

so good. No break ins, everyone is safe at night.

I use screws and bottles caps. Pop a hole in the bottle cap with a nail then use it like a washer and the teeth around the edge of the cap help hold the wire. Plus you get all the pretty colors of the different caps!
