WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

What I quickly learned is that chicks seem to multiply. I had a coop built last fall - it is 8 by 8 with 7 nest boxes in it. We added a 10 by 8 run to it, they will free range once they are bigger and then be in the coop at night. I started with 5 RIR, 5 Boff Orps and 5 Black Sex Links - I also added 2 ducks of unknown breed, they are brown and fuzzy. I first used a smaller stock tank for a brooder, by the time they all hit 4 weeks it became evident that was not big enough and man do ducks ever make a mess so we went up to a much larger tank. Well this weekend we purchased another brooder off of LSN - UMMMM for the ducks. Well we made the mistake of stopping at a farm/garden supply we had never been to - they had just gotten some new chicks so we added 5 Welsummers. So they went into the new/used brooder and they looked so lonely, just 5 chicks in a huge 6 foot brooder. Still the problem of what to do with these ducks -well hubby took a kiddie pool I had used to whelp puppies in and a section of 36" 1x2 fencing and made a ring of fencing which fits down into the pool and it is perfect for the ducks! But because the 5 little Welsummers looked so lonely we went back and added 5 Barred Rocks. We are now up to 25 chicks, 2 ducks and have 20 pheasants and 10 Lavender Orps coming plus my incubator will be here Monday and I will pick up 100 quail eggs are start them. Oh yea the 15 Turkeys will be here in June.

Chicken math, it gets you every time!!!! Good luck with all your little ones

First time ever ordering from a hatchery. A couple of us are ordering together. The person always orders from Crackle. So I gave in an ordered 5 straight run brown leghorns, 5 straight run buckeyes and 5 pullets of EE. Never had baby chicks before so this is all new to me. What I do have is 1 white leghorn roo, 1 EE, 1 Plymouth rock, 1white lace Wyn. and 6 red something. I received about 6months of age.

We are shameless newbies and had a hard time finding chicks to buy ... We wound up at eFowl (I hope that isn't terrible) and got, for cost reasons, TWENTY FIVE chicks! Our coop will hold only five or so which means finding homes but i am not fazed. We are getting the following breeds with the intention of keeping one (or two?) from each or some ...

Silver laced Wyandottes because they are so very pretty
Easter Eggers to provide fun colored eggs for our children
Copper morans for the same purpose
Delaware because they have a homey, sweet look and should lay through the cold season
Buff Orpington because they just look so motherly and sweet I can't resist!

These little babies will arrive here in three to five weeks and I am jittery with excitement! (I am driving my husband crazy with my chicken obsession :) ). I'm researching like a mad woman and can't wait for the work to begin!!!

Sadly, they don't update the tracking number :( However, I ordered mine from mcmurray and they said I would receive them on a Tuesday and the post office called at 8 am on Monday!!!!

Hmm... They did do one update saying it was processed through St. Paul, MN. Of course that was just before 3am this morning and nothing since. I'm glad to hear that yours arrived a day early. That gives me hope that ours will too.

That was exactly what mine said too :) and then nothing until the PO called me. I was impressed that they arrived from Minn to Ohio in that time! A few arrived iffy, but after using the grow gel and the quick chik....they all perked up. I did also used Nutri Drench for some of them. But they all arrived alive and chirping!

I love your choices of chicks, we have SLW, and are awaiting EE's and Copper Marans. My Mom just go to two BO's yesterday, I saw them this afternoon and they are so adorable!
I'm driving my hubby nuts also, although he hasn't held a chick yet he likes watching them. I think he's glad we have a few now so I can shut up about getting them! lol.
