WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

They came!!!!!
They are just over 3 weeks old.

I can't wait until my chicks stop acting like I am going to kill them when I reach for them!

I actually have to step inside the brooder and squat down to catch them all each morning to check them over. They really scream at me. I have 15 thriving ones in the main brooder now and 4 in a smaller box. I had a silkie hurt his leg and didn't want him using it much, so he got moved into the smaller box. One small chick with lots of pasty butt issues and was backed up some. I was trying to catch it as often as possible to check, so it got moved into the box as well. I ended up adding two more that were small and had some pasty butt issues as well. With 4 in there, they don't seem as lonely and they are much easier to catch. Also hoping less competition for food and water will give them a boost.

I thought I was doing something wrong with my chicks. I saw everyone's photos of the chicks sitting on them and going to sleep on them. I'm happy to say at 5 weeks my babies come running to see me. They still don't like me picking them up but they sit on me and sleep on me now. Treats in my hands and on my lap really helped.

So the day I have been waiting for since I ordered in March is here. My chicks are supposed to ship today, I'm literally stalking my own e-mail waiting for the message saying they are on the way. My stomach is making laps I'm so excited and nervous about my little baby chicks in the mail.

My neighbor and I went in together and ordered 10 buff orpingtons, 4 partridge rocks, 2 speckled sussex all pullets. Then 15 straight run bantam clean legged assortment. Of the 18 bantam we received we lost 14 to shipping stress. I was very upset! McMurray Hatchery sent us 16 more bantam and a supplement to put in the water. 1 was dead on arrival. 2 more have died since. I am very frustrated. I am currently holding one who is struggling and feeding it yogurt every 15 minutes. i would welcome any suggestions! They have a red light bulb that is 250 watts they have sugar electrolyte water they have chick feed i dipped each beak in water and watched it drink. They are still just flopping over and dying! I have no idea why. The only ones dying are the bantam. I have not lost a single full size baby. This is my first time with bantams and with having chicks shipped. Always before I have just picked out chicks at the feed store. And always full sized babies. I am at a loss here!

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I wish that I knew what to tell you. Unfortunately I do not have a lot of experience with Bantams or any chick really. I would suggest that you call a vet and see if there is something that they can tell you. You have probably already done that though. You must not be getting a lot of rest.

My vet does not do chickens. They are strictly farm produce in this area. The common saying is chicken have two states of being.. Alive and dead, I hate having all these babies dying and not being able to do anything for them. Thanks for listening to me vent anyway.
