Alright Guys and Gals.. I have been playing with a few digital (PID) temperature controls for the last few weeks and now I know what it cost to make an incubator temperature controller (Or brooder, I have also been using one in my smoker to smoke fish
)..
It cost a little less than 50$ for me to build one without my time involved. ( I was thinking 15.00 for my time as I enjoy doing this stuff, it takes me a couple hours to put it together)
I could even provide everything as a kit so you could put it together yourself... They are fairly simple... and I could provide detailed instructions.
I could easily ship them in a flat rate box..
This would be a great addition to a homebuilt incubator and is much more accurate than a water heater thermostat.. Dimmer switch, even more accurate than a wafer style thermostat It would also eliminate a need for a secondary thermometer as it has a digital readout of what the temp is.
If I had enough people interested the cost will also be able to come down.. My costs are estimated at ordering enough materials to build 5 units at a time..
I have also been researching using Nichrome wire versus Light bulbs as a heating source.. It is much cheaper and easier than most think it and is also much more reliable than a light bulb..
If you are interested let me know.. If not.. I can tell you where to get everything.. (it will cost more as I was planning on buying everything at once)
The only catch is.. The Unit I have that is the most cost effective and still accurate only operates in Celsius. I can provide a quick conversion so it really isn't an issue.
