I have a Light Brahma rooster that has been given the name of Jerk due to his attitude. He behaves for a few days and just when you are least expecting it he will be trying to flog you. I am always on guard with him when I go into feed, water and especially while gathering eggs. He seems to take personal offense to my taking his hens eggs. This is my first experience with a rooster with such bad manners. I will add we bought these Brahmas just prior to laying age with the rooster being the same age. The gentleman we bought them from had apparently purchased a lot of 100, I am not sure how much handling this rooster had as a little roo. The hens do not try to attack us but are stand offish in their attitude. We have picked them up and petted on them but it seems the earlier you can do this the less likely you are to have problems later. We will be finding out if this theory holds true, earlier this spring we hatched eggs from the Brahma hens and rooster and have handled the babies on a regular basis. We are trying to let them know we are not going to hurt them. We have six that were hatched by a broody hen that are now 3 weeks old. I have handled them a little up to this point but we are making it a point to pick them up and pet them when we go to the coup to visit or feed. The sad part is having a rooster with this attitude is not acceptable. I have young grand children who love my chickens. This Brahma rooster is headed for the stew pot.
