What are your chicken goals

My husband and I are completing Castle #3 (a large bantam chicken house) before it gets too cold here in NE Ohio. The ultimate goal is to complete this build so that all of my featherballs are comfortable and secure. Then, my chicken/quail kingdom will be complete! (Castle #1 for the retired ladies, Castle #2 for my bachelors, and Castle #3 for the minis). I already have the Quail Kingdom for my bobwhites and a smaller ‘Castle’ for my Seramas. Next Spring, all of the buildings will have new and improved runs built and even a new aviary for the bobwhites. It might seem silly to a lot of people that I call my coops by these names, but (I don’t care) I adore every single one of my little balls of fluff!
I love it!! We have names our builds too!!! The one currently is the Chicken Chalet. I'd love to see pics of your castles!!!

did that and no predators since
This is the hope, as we've not had to deal with preditors as of yet, but with winter and hungry animals we wanted some extra security!

My long term goal is 24 birds, dual purpose large breeds. i am down to 12 now do to brothers and sisters that liked my girls really well, I have mostly Brahma/Orpington cross with a couple older odd balls in the mix.
Short term goals is a new bigger better double coop to separate my flock into 2 since my wife refuses to let me eat my mean rooster.
I give away most of my eggs as well. I think i may put up a small sign and see if i can sell some egg cartons for $1.00 a piece.
A double coop sounds awesome!!!

I think I'd put out a sign if it would actually see any traffic lol.
We live on a dead end road and the only cars that pass our way are the neighbors that live .25 miles down the road, and the mailman 🤣🤣🤣

The closest house in the other direction is abt 1.5 miles

We live on a dead end road too! I’ve attached a photo of Castle #3 (the bantam castle). It’ll be roomy for my Golden Sebrights and Silkie Brights. We’re further along now, but these are my latest photos. ❤️ the name Chicken Chalet!

And thanks abt the name!!!
Wish I could figure out what breed of dual purpose birds to put in it lol.

BYC always makes me really jealous of everyone who lays lots of land for chickens 😂 would be my dream to have a huge flock🙂
I’ve only been keeping chickens for just under 2 years but have loved it and learnt so much.
I’m only able to have a small flock in my garden (I have just 7 hens at the moment + 5 chicks) but we mainly keep them as pets to be honest, they’re much more entertaining than what people think, in my opinion 😁
I agree that giving fresh eggs away is quite fun, people always seem really impressed with the orange yolks🙂
In the spring would like to expand a tiny bit though with some more multi-purpose breeds (egg production, cool looking birds, broodiness)

Your flock looks lovely!!! And I agree chickens are super entertaining! I've simply fell in love with watching them interact. I could do it for hours. I used to tale a chair in their run and just sit and watch them lol. I find it completely relaxing after a long day at work cooped up in a building! Expanding in the spring sounds like a solid goal to me!!! Lol I'd never discourage more chickens lol

Same! Well now that we are older and wiser......we have taken our fun to free range. I have 5 chairs set out in all the chickens favorite places in the yard. Whichever chair I decide, they agree and we all migrate together. These big girls have personalities to boot, so, when i hang in the coop these days, they show way too much jealousy and possessiveness. In the coop they focus on me too much. During free range hang outs, they really get into the chicken behavior. Theres nothing better than watching a chicken scratch in the ground. When she really gets goin' and you see the rhythm of that fluffy butt swinging back and forth, shes in the zone and i can watch for ages. My delicious will tell me when its time to migrate. The girls will start heading off to the new place and when established, she'll come back to get me, lmao. I love my hens. They are my best friends. Shhhhh 🐓❤️
