What are your chicken plans for next spring?

My plans, separate my coturnix quails into breeding groups by colors and sizes. Get some silkie chicks, call duck hatching eggs, and more coturnix hatching eggs to have yet another bloodline to work with.

Hatch hatch hatch, and probably ship out hatching eggs.

Boy, I'm not sure. My main thing is to hatch out a few dozen eggs from the better ones of my speckled sussexes, keep the ones that'll improve the flock, eat the rest. I really like the sussexes, they are fun and user-friendly, and my main roo Pants is definitely Da Man, very responsible and manly. (Auxilliary backup roo Itchy is more of a combination of hormone-crazed teenager and pointy-haired boss

) I want to work towards getting 'em maturing early and laying a bit earlier/better, if possible -- I'm not really concerned about breeding for show aesthetics.

The buff chanteclers (I think they have Buff Orp blood in them though) need to find a new home. Then I would really like to use that pen for "something", but have not decided what. Preferably something modest-sized and feed-efficient, a good layer, and not completely wacko like the campines were. Am still mulling over the merits of getting more sexlinks vs something I can breed. Dunno. EEs or Ameraucanas from GOOD LAYING LINES would be fine with me. Probably end up depending on what I can turn up around here in terms of private breeders.

It is a good thing spring is a long ways away still

I will be sorting through what I will be keeping and not keeping and starting a breeding program for color and type.

Also adding different colors to my flock.

building new pens bigger pens. Would love to free range but due to too many dogs close by that is out of the question.

I want to be able to sell hatching eggs and chicks this spring/summer.

Thats my goal for now. I doubt or even considering adding anymore to my brew at the moment. I am more then likly going to down size and keep a small nit group of good type breeding quality silkies.

As any good BYCer I plan a coop/run extension, and I am going to order some meaties this spring, Then order some breeding chick stock for my own meaties program, going to try and breed some decent meaties. and of course maybe a bator, woohoo.

I want to try some broilers. The layers have gone over very well with DH ! Since eating fresh eggs for breakfast on a regular basis he has made many suggestions & improvements to the coop & run

Quite the shocking turn around from when the "C" word was banned lol. While I am still getting the rolling eyes when I bring up raising broilers in the spring I fully anticipate the same turn around in attitude after eating fresh chicken!

I would like to get some chicks that I know will lay some blue or blueish eggs, and I would also like to get some Cuckoo Marans.
My goal is to have beautiful chickens that lay beautiful eggs..lol

As for birds - I want a blue laced red wyandotte so badly! but we can have only hens, and I have not found a breeder in my area.
