What are your chickens afraid of?

They're afraid of kids. Not just mine either! Any kid. The babies aren't so bad but the older hens go nuts when a kid gets near them. They get so upset we don't allow anyone near them that has kids with them and I hate to do that but the hens just get too upset. They also don't like you to carry boxes or bags of anything but chicken feed near them. Wierd chickens but I love em!

That's so weird. All my chickens approach new things as: "Is that food? Are they carrying food? Could there be food inside that thing they're carrying?" If the answer to any of these questions is no, then they turn around and look for food elsewhere. They only run when chased or chasing. And these are well-fed fat birds, it's not like we starve them or anything! Kids are just smaller potential food resources until they squeal and give chase.

DH reminded me that they find helicopters dangerous and hide from them...

Mine are afraid of the bag of wood shavings that I use in their house. They are not afraid of the lawnmower or the giant blue ball my 2 year was kicking around by their pen. ( I think they wanted to sit on it!?!)
Oh ,and leaves falling from the trees the first time. The next time it happened they tried to eat them.

OMG, mine love water. Their favorite thing is to play with their water and use the chicken nipple on their water to drench each other.

My chickens are afraid of the "DOT OF DOOM" (a/k/a the red laser pointer). They are also terrified of ANYTHING with the color yellow. I've had them since they were a day old, and I have no idea what caused that phobia. I could see why they are afraid of the laser pointer...there are cats that run after that! But yellow? No idea!!! Unless they have seen these....

My 7 year old and any 'shadow' that passes over them while out in the yard. Both will make them run for cover.

(The second, I believe is due to the loss of one hen to a hawk. Happened so fast, I would never have believed how bold hawks could be.. The funny thing is, while our older hens had witnessed this, they taught it somehow to the younger hens, so they all make a mad dash for cover at the sight of any kind of shadow passing over-head!)
