Our flock all live in The White House. So... depending on how they looked (similar to a picture), a personality trait, or historical reason they were named....

Martha Washington - Silver Lakenvelder (picture)
Abigail Adams - Dominique (Original Am woman & original Am chicken)
Patsy Jefferson - Rhode Island Red (red-head)
Dolley Madison - Golden Campine x Jersey Black Giant (same profile)
Rachel Jackson - Partridge Plymouth Rock (picture)
Hannah van Buren - Golden Campine x Partridge Rock (picture)
Mary Lincoln - Columbian Wyandotte (picture)
Sam Grant - Golden Campine roo (personality trait)
Lucy Hayes - Ancona (Sang in church choir - a singer chick)
Frances Cleveland - Delaware.... (There's a story here. Cleveland was the president when the Columbian Expo was held in Chicago where the Columbian Wyandotte was introduced. A person, who obviously knew as little about chicks as I did told me this one was my Columbian Wyandotte. But then I found a photo where they have similar looks.)
Ida McKinley - Silver Laced Wyandotte (McKinley's opponent, WJB ran on the Silver platform)
Ellen Wilson - Buttercup (picture)
Grace Coolidge - Araucana/Americana (picture)
Lou Hoover - Jersey Black Giant (personality, height, temperament)
Eleanor Roosevelt - White Face Black Spanish (personality trait)
Bess Truman - Silver Spangled Hamburg (picture)
Ike Eisenhower - Single Comb Brown Leghorn roo(personality trait)
Jackie Kennedy - Gold Laced Wyandotte (who else would be Gold Laced?)
Lady Bird Johnson - Gold Penciled Hamburg (ran straight into the wildflower garden when let outdoors the first time)
Pat Nixon - White Wyandotte (picture)
Betty Ford - Buff Orpington (Blond hair, white dancer tight legs, Mrs Ford was a Martha Graham dancer)

I haven't really named the 5 four week old chicks yet, but I have some ideas. Here are some pics of our ladies and their namesakes.......

Ok, no Roggie. I got my chicks and named 3 so far. The one who follows me around all the time is Moosi. The little one who loves to go in the house and explore, is Ms. Dora. And the one I think is a roo is Fighter Jet. He got sick when he was a few days old so...yeah.

Well, whichever rooster we decide to keep will be Mick (Jagger)
And the girls are:
Aretha (Franklin), Tina (Turner), Billie (Holiday), Gladys (Knight) and Bessie (Smith)

The like the first lady names. The pictures really do resemble them.
