My favorite are Rhode Island Reds because they lay a good size egg and for the most part they lay one every day. I have only had a couple breeds and they were the best I have had so far. I have recently bought Easter Eggers, Black Coppers, Welsummers, Delawares, and more Rhode Islands. I am so excited to see the color of their eggs. I love chickens who lay pretty colored eggs and also look beautiful. I want to know your favorite breed or breeds and also what you can tell my on the breeds I have.

I got barred rocks, silver laced wyandottes, rhoade island reds, & black copper Marans, So far they're all my favorite including my feisty 3 white leghorns since they don't skip laying and very friendly to humans.

Silkies are my favorite breed. They aren't stellar layers, but they make up for it by being wonderful broodies and mamas!

my americanus (sp?) lay every single day pretty green eggs...my EE's lay almost everyday pretty blue eggs...my barred rock lays every day pretty light brown egg and 2 of my 3 RiR' mixes lay dark brown eggs every day

I have been a chicken mama only a year and found Golden Comets are everyday layers and very cold weather tolerant. I also have an EE and speckled Sussex that lay almost everyday. I love EE green colored eggs.

Thanks for all your comments loved them all. Not getting anymore chickens soon but next time I will look at the breeds that everyone named. I am on chicken over-lode. I Love all my chickens but some need to go to new homes. I don't have a big enough coop. I have 24 chicks hatched and 4 more on the way plus 9-11 other chickens including my roosters.

My Barred Rock was the best layer...huge eggs, almost every day. My Australorp was pretty reliable too, although her eggs were slightly smaller than the Barred Rock ones.
