What are your favorite breeds?

my favorite are my hybridized red jungle fowl but I'd say australorps lay the richest tasting eggs

That's great because we have an australorp! I can't wait for her to start laying.

Our chicks are only 6 weeks old, but so far our barred rock is my favorite. She is the sweetest bird!

Aww! she's so cute! Does she lay a lot of eggs?

She's a good layer, maybe 4-5/week. Not quite as many as my RIR or Golden Comets, but her eggs are a very dark brown with speckles. They add some nice contrast to an egg basket.

Also, glad to read good things about Australorps, I don't get along with ours- so far she's loud and she pecks at everyone and everything, but I'll overlook those annoyances for great eggs!

all my black feathered breeds refuse to be on the bottom half of the pecking order even the youngest pecked their way to the top!
