Hi everyone, I'm new to BYC. 
I'm excited to be here. I never would have thought when I was younger that I would ever want to grow up to be like a crazy chicken lady.
My husband, children and I live on a small farm. We have lived near my husband's parents for several years. His family has had chickens forever and shared their eggs with us, but the last several years their flock has died down. So I felt the need to start my own flock. This year for the first time I bought my very own chicks in spring and most of them are just now starting to lay, which I'm super happy about. I guess I never knew how much I would love chickens until I had my own.
I bought a few of several different breeds such as Dominique, Welsummer, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Buckeye, Barred Rock, and Black Australorp.
So far my Buff Orpingtons & Speckled Sussex hens seem to be the friendliest and are probably on the way to being my favorites. It got me curious to see which breeds are other people's favorites. So, what is your favorite breed of chicken and what do you love about them?
