Welcome to BYC! I love many different breeds! Barred Rocks and Black Australorps are so sweet and curious, Easter Eggers, Marans and Welsummers have such pretty eggs, Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds are such good layers.... and there are many many more

Thank you. I've been loving watching the barred rocks and Australorps as they forage. It really is like "chicken TV." I imagine I'll have a ton of favorites down the road.

Silkies often make great broody mamas

They're so pretty and fluffy! I would love to have some eventually. I'll have to create an even better set up for them, because I live in an area of the Midwest that gets really hot during the summer.

My advice is to get whatever breed you want. Most breeds are pretty adaptable to the different climates as long as they have proper housing for the climate. Good ventilation is one of the key factors.

My favorite breeds are Eggers (I have a thing for colored eggs), and Buckeyes so far! My little Buckeye is the sweetest thing!
