I made this one from oak lumber and it has square nest boxes. I have two of these 3 row boxes which are on stands sit up inside my hen house. Each individual box measures 12" x 12" x 14". I painted them with non-toxic white high gloss paint for easier cleanup with it's slick surface. I use straw for the bedding.

The front perch board sits out 12" from the box itself. This way they can leap down with ease from the box. The front perch is only 12" from the ground. This makes it easier on their feet and legs when they hop down to the ground.

My chickens seem to enjoy using them so much I think I need to cover the front until they reach laying age!

To the bottom left of this last image is a homemade feeder project I worked on several weeks ago. I need to describe how I made this soon!
