I lost one of my adult hens to a possum last week, and that is very similar to what was left of her. Only for my hen, all the internal organs were scooped out and eaten. Possums like to eat the rear end and internal organs.

The attack was recorded on my coop-cam (yes, I have web cams in my coop and run). It happened in the early morning, it was already light and a few of the girls were out and about. I was surprised a possum would be out in the light like that, but he was and he chased down and brutally killed my bird. He was huge, but surprisingly fast.

This week I put out the live trap last night and baited it with canned cat food (chicken flavor of course). This morning he was caught in the trap. I dispatched him with a .22 shot to the head.

I know cats will start eating thing alive. I have seen it happen to a squirrel. this is really sad an I am sorry for your loss

raccoon - looks like - but a raccoon would have finished it off unless it got scared off.

Definitely a possom, this happens a lot where I live! It's a slight chance that is was a racoon, but possums are know to only eat the rear, and organs.

I've never been fond of grinners ever since as a child with my father pulling up on a downer cow and watching one crawl out her bunghole.
