What bedding to use for newborn chicks?

I was told no straw as it is a hindrance to newly developing limbs.

The chicks will wet the paper up in ten minutes, even if there was a traction issue, wet poo takes care of it.

Hi can anyone tell me is paper pellets ok as bedding its says chemical free no dust etc my chicks have had a scratch around but they not trying to eat them i also put there blanket back in a corner to huddle on they seem happy

i use newspaper. i only use the paper that doesnt feel slick. my chicks never slip or have issues walking on it. i only put them on it after they can walk and stand on there own after hatching

pine shavings, for only a day or so...no longer...you can also just put down old bath towels...as long as their legs can stay upright and not "spraddle" out

Wow.....can't believe this thread came back up! It must be well over a year old, as I've been hatching and raising my own chicks for over a year now and got my first feed store chicks 2 years ago!
