What breed am i? (Mystery hen)

Looks Cornish cross like to me too. One thing though, Rhode island reds and Cornish both have yellow legs, as well as most Oriental gamefowl (though it is possible for them to have white, just mostly yellow.)

If she were a cross between a black bird and red, she should be black. And the black legs would of been dominant too over yellow I believe.. So something must of hopped a fence.

Sorry to slightly de-rail, but are those free-range Coturnix?!?!?!

I'm glad you took the initiative to de-rail: when I looked at the pics I was sure someone stole my quail!!! That little quail hen looks just like my sweet little girl LOL

I can't let her free range though: she would never be caught again... sigh.

OP, adorable quail! And good lookin' chicken!

I think the leg color you're seeing there is just the camera. . . . What made me think of Gamefowl cross is this red girl. Part Production Red, part Thailand. It is true that black x red makes black (actually, it makes black with red leakage to look like a crowwing) but not all Orientals are solid black.

Oh and to add, one color that looks black to most people's eye is Brown-Red (too little coppering shows a simply black chicken) - Which, crossed to a simple Columbian like Production Reds, can give a 50% chance of throwing more columbian looking birds like the OP's.

Illia- she had pinkish-white legs, and I have no idea the ancestry of the previous owner's chickens...so the father could have been anything...

And yeah, they are free range quail

The hen was the smartest quail I owned, out of 5 in total and I actually managed to teach her to come back to the coop at night ! Unfortunately, I had to stop keeping quails as new neighbours moved in with their CATS ...

no, I dont think so. Isa Browns have white around their necks, not black

I'm thinking it was more than 2 breeds crossed. Because if there was, for example a red and a black crossed, then another red, would the offspring be red? Or still black..
