The chicken in question is about 8 weeks old. We bought it 2 days old and was told it is an Ameraucana but not told what variety. I suppose it looks most like the silvers but doesn't really look like either the male of females silvers I have seen pics of. We are hoping this is a hen. Any help is appreciated.

Can you explain why you think it's probably a cockerel? Thanks.....

Based on how red the comb is (EE hens' combs generally don't redden at all until closer to 14-16 weeks) and the color pattern. Finally, I think I see a hint of long, skinny saddle feathers coming in right in front of the tail.

I think it could be a pullet. that's not a saddle feather. It's just the pic. The colour pattern to me actually looks pullet to me. The red comb screams cockerel though. Give it another week or so IMO

Thanks- I will try to get a straight on picture of the comb. We have a campine chicken whose comb is much redder. The chicken in the pic's comb is a soft pink, I think. Will post when I get a decent shot- thanks again to those weighing in.
