What breed and gender?

You can't mix color varieties. They won't breed true any longer. If he was supposed to be Wheaten, but came out black, something other than a Wheaten Ameraucana rooster bred the hen.

Is he solid black? It looks like he might have some gold in those photos.
 
Aah so you're saying that he can't breed true within his ameraucana clan. Black can't breed wheaten and still be called a true bred ameraucana. He'll make ameraucana chicks but they are a hodgepodge of colors. Fun, kinda like the Kinder surprise eggs!
No gold, that's just sun. Today I caught him in the act for the first time, but he doesn't even crow yet!

When you start mixing colors, they are no long Ameraucana, even if both parents are 'purebred' Ameraucana. Same goes for any other 'breed' of chicken. You can't mix a Buff Orpington with a Lavender Orpington and still call them Orpingtons.
It's not about pedigree or lineage.
