When we picked up some fertilized eggs for a 4H project; the choices were barnevelder or wyandotte . In fact, as a chick it looked like a wyandotte- but none of the pictures I find online match up. Someone came by and said it looks like an Americana/EE.
My kids picked this one out to keep but we can't have a roo. I'm hoping that this is one of the breeds that the gals get a comb on top. I don't notice any pointy feathers near the neck but maybe I'm looking at it incorrectly.
Can someone please help me and the kids figure this baby out?
It's 5 weeks old; super friendly and is living in our house.

Breast feathers looks like a mille fleur EE to me , possibly a Speckled Sussex / Ameraucana or EE cross . I love the color ! On second look that comb is awful tall at 5 weeks for it to be 1/2 Ameraucana ; so would lean towards one EE parent . Sure would like to see a brighter and larger pic of the entire bird .

........ also noticed those legs are pinkish with some gray showing . Pretty sure the wyandottes and barnevelders didn't get together to produce him .

I wouldn't totally give up hope for it to be a pullet for a few more weeks , but it sure looks like it has a little bit of beard and muffs . Could have some EE , d'Anvers , d'Uccle , or who knows . If you know the breeder you might check to see what he has on the property .

edt : I'm not even sure that what I'm seeing is a small beard and muffs due to my poor vision and picture size

; going by its back color could even be barnevelder cross and what I think are white legs are just washed out by the flash . I'll let those with better knowledge help you after all of these bumps
