What Breed and what Sex

We have a rescue chick. What breed do you think it is and pullet or cockerel.

A bit too young to sex. I think it is probably a Marans mix but breed will be more clear in 2 or 3 weeks, too.

Nice job! I can only say that it doesn't look like a cockerel at this point, but that could change once it grows and feathers out. It is quite young. It has feathered legs and the legs look like they are white. So maybe a Marans or Marans mix, but could be a mix of some other breed with feathered legs. Just can't be certain yet.

Depends on the store. Some have contracts with certain hatcheries, some will buy and sell from local farmers. If the feed store is a chain, then its a hatchery bird.

And I agree with @JedJackson both on the assessment of the gender and in congratulating you on taking in this little one.

Not usually. But it lacks the copper of black or blue copper Marans. It could be just a hatchery quality Marans or a Lanshan. Or perhaps a Cochin, but those legs really look white and Cochins should have yellow legs.
