Hello all, I'm new to this page and to the chicken world!! I went to get a few pullets from a reputable hatchery yesterday! I picked 2 Barred Rocks, 2 black Austrolrps and 2 Buff Orpingtons. I can easily distinguish the buffs, however, I'm starting to wonder if I got any barred rocks. If they aren't barred rocks then I have no clue what they could be! So the 2 in question are golden/orange/brown with one brown stripe down their head with a little brown speckling on the wind feathers coming in. Could they still be barred rocks? Did he give me a wrong breed? What could the breed be?! Thanks! Lol.

The little red ones decidedly not barred rocks - barred rock chicks are black with a white head dot as chicks. What color are the legs of these chicks? Can you describe the area where their combs will come in so we can determine what comb type they are? These are characteristics that are considered in a breed ID.

Barred Rocks are black with a white spot on the back of the head. They are not red. Those are probably Production Reds. How a hatchery could get Barred Rocks confused with any other breed is beyond me.

I was almost certain after googling "barred rock chicks" that these weren't them. They have yellow/tan legs and I believe it's a single comb. They both also have a tiny black spot behind each eye.

Did you specifically say, "I want barred rocks" or did you see these chicks that may have been in a bin marked as barred rocks and say "I want two of those"? Asking because a "reputable hatchery" would not, imo, make such a mistake in breed ID so I wonder if it was more a matter of a mismark/miscommunication.

@junebuggena after just searching Production Red chicks that looks to me what I've got! Bummer, not looking forwards to the bad temperament I hear about the production reds [

He handed me a sheet of all the breeds he had in stock I personally marked the breeds I wanted, they were even written on my receipt. He then went in the back and picked them out. Not sure how the confusion could've happened other than he was insanely busy when I was there!
