This chick is a barnyard mix that I hatched in the incubator. All I know is the Roo should’ve been a silver laced Wyandotte. Pictures are at 1 day and 3 weeks old.

Welcome to BYC!

Do you happen to know what possible breeds the mother might have been? That might help with guessing... but it might not... sometime a mix is just a mix and doesn’t look like either parent breed... other times it favors one... or the other... or both at the same time.

These are the pictures I have of the flock the eggs came from. To me, they mostly look like mixes too. Lol. Who knows what all I’ve got going on in the brooder.

I saw:
  • barred rock hen
  • A few red Blue laced Wyandotte hens
  • A pen full of silver gray Dorkings
Not sure which one I’d guess as the momma though... maybe someone else will see something

I thought about this some more, and the SLW x barred rock should produce a black colored chick, so that’s out.

SLW x Dorking should produce a silver based offspring and the chick in question looks to carry gold, so I don’t see this being the cross

SLW x BLR Wyandotte seems to me the most likely, but the chick’s down color and pattern would be darker like laced Wyandottes so this doesn’t seem to fit either

Maybe there was another breed of hen?

Or maybe the Gold laced rooster pictureed is the father and a Dorking is the mother... that might give this result? :idunno
