What breed/gender are these 2 new chickens?

Jeez, this guy sounds awful, trying to palm off roosters on you and all the arguing. I would have walked away.

yeah, i thought about it but the only other vendor only had very young ones and that's not what i was going for. i'm not his biggest fan, if i do get more i'll be asking my neighbors where they get theirs (as soon as i learn how to say all that in portuguese..)

Unfortunately in this situation, they could be anything breed-wise, if you couldn’t get any additional info from the fellow. Maybe he hatched them himself, or maybe he bought cheap chicks to raise to pullets? It looks like they were de-beaked?

i did not even know de-beaking was a thing, time to go do some reading! i did notice one of their beaks looked weird, now i see it's both of them. :/

The tips of the top beak are cut off. This is done to reduce pecking and damaging each other, which occurs in crowded conditions. Often done in commercial settings. I think I read that after a long while, the beak will grow back, as long as it wasn’t cut back too far.
