My husband and I are starting to race chickens and I was wondering what would be a good breed for us. We want good roasters and good white egg layers (Large eggs). We really want to do this right and would appreciate any advice any of you have for us. Thank you

As far as a great white egg layer, you can't beat White Leghorns. I'm not crazy about their personalities myself, but many people LOVE them.

Hi & welcome, If you want to raise, I would go with a White Leghorn
If you want to race chickens, I'd go with a Gamefowl, they're fast!

Sorry, wasn't trying to make fun of your spelling, just thought it was funny to race chickens. Hey, they race horses & dogs.....why not?

There are lots of breeds that lay white eggs. Leghorns tend to be flighty, meaning they're nervous and appear afraid, they're difficult to get near or handle if you need to, and very difficult to make into a pet chicken, if that interests you.

Henderson's lists lots of breeds along with several characteristics of each breed, including color of egg and how productive they are. The second link is a handy tool to help you choose, at least among the breeds that this particular hatchery sells.
