I got a surprise chick from MM hatchery. can anyone help me with breed? I thought maybe speckled sussex or easter egger.. but there are so many other chicks with similar colorings im stumped.

I think EEs are common as the free chick. It looks very similar to one of my now 3 month EEs. I don't have a pic right now but I can look for one. Whatever it is it's adorable. I love that chipmunk chick look.

It actually looks a lot like my mixed breed bantam even though I know that's not what it'll be I'm sharing my pic anyway ;) breed will likely be more clear in a few more weeks. Share some more pics then!

as a side question. Is it okay to have red ranger broilers in brooder with a Black Australorp and possibly EE chick? Seems like the Rangers are pecking on the EE quite a bit.. worried maybe i should separate? it is only the first 5 hours or so in the brooder...

You should keep chickens intended for meat and egg laying separate because meat chickens grow much faster and need their food to be restricted.

well whatever he or she is, they are the meanest little chick in the brooder. He or she is the smallest, yet goes around pecking at all the other chicks eyes. One chick I think is now blind, she can't open either eye and is now hiding from everyone. I have separated both the mystery chick, and my poor blind chick from each other and rest of brooder. Is there anything else I can do for blind chick or the aggressive one?

So sorry to hear about the aggression problem. How is everyone doing now? I'd give your injured chick vitamins, probiotics or at least acv in the water. Keep separated until feeling better. Give them a little stuffie to keep company. And for the aggressive one I'm not really sure maybe keeping separated will calm it down?
