Production red. Basically, a production red is a red colored, brown egg laying bird, sold by hatcheries, that usually has some Rhode Island Red and/or New Hampshire Red in its background. Some hatcheries actually sell them as Rhode Island Reds, but a true Rhode Island Red is much different.
