I would like to ask you to please have a look at this chick. It hatched Oct 10th so it is 9 days old now and the person who sold me the eggs just said "Heinz58" or mongrel.. Despite I am curious to know if it has any breed in it all.
Thank you

Heinz 57/8 is a loose term for a mix of things. So it’s likely a cross. Best to wait until it feathers out a bit more (8weeks+) to determine it’s heritage. At the moment it could feather out buff or red, even brown. But it could be a proper barnyard mix of anything. It’d also help if the seller could narrow down what breeds they own?

Thank you, yes I know it is a mix of whatever there was. And I did ask him what breeds he has,the response was the same - 'backyard' breed :) Do you think it is a male?

If he told you he had "backyard" breed, that probably means that he has more than one generation of mixed breeds crossed with mixed breeds. You may be able to guess at the chicks heritage when it's older. You should post pictures again at 10 weeks. Have fun with your new chick. I hope you have more to keep it company?

It’s probably pretty mixed then, which makes it near impossible to ID what breeds may be in it, even when fully feathered. It is too young to sex, post back in another 6 weeks.
