I got them from a feed store. The guys who got them for me weren't very knowledgeable. They didn't know how old the chicks were I got them from a feed store. The guys who got them for me weren't very knowledgeable. They didn't know how old the chicks were or how warm I should keep them. They said this one was a barred rock, but now that its feathers are in it does not look like a barred rock to me. What do you think it is?

Not a barred rock.... Can you do a picture of it standing up??? It might be a Black Star or but I'm seeing some non black colors - or may be my antique screen~~!

I also see non black colors and my laptop is new. Need to see pics of entire body standing up from side would be good and need to see comb from side and front...color of legs...as hdowden says.

Agreed, need better pics

Yeah, it's hard to get good pics of this one. She is so dark and my camera is just an iPhone, so I can't seem to get a good picture. Her legs are black. You can see a hint of brownish-gold in the feathers on her back--which is what clued me in that she couldn't be a barred rock. Her beak is black and comb is yellow with a hint of orange (and she may be a he for all I know). Here is a picture of her face, but it's not very good either. I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow.

She is the one that got attacked by a cat and was swollen for a few weeks, so her side feathers where the swelling was aren't growing in as well as the others.

Maybe a black australorp, my girl looked like that as a pullet in the sun with some colors peeking through and she has a dark beak and dark legs.

Looks like a single comb? I don't know much about black sex links but maybe a barred rock x RIR cross and they just called it a BR???? I almost bought a "Red Cornish" at the feed store and found out although it was only labeled RC it was a Red Cornish cross...I left w/o it and was disappointed!'

I

Here are the best photos I could get with my limited skill and equipment. :) It may be a sex link cross--I think that was on the list of chicks that were still for sale at the store. They had just combined all the chicks into one tub. I think it is a single comb, but I don't know much about combs.
