What breed is this chick?

Got a call at six this morning to pick up my chicks. This is my free one from Murray McMurray. I'm thinking Silver Spangled Hamburg. Is there a way to feather sex this guy or do I just have to wait? What do you think and if you have received the free chick, what breed did you get?

You're correct on breed and im going to guess pullet by looking at the wing feathers. BUT I could be wrong.

i think you are right on breed.

Silver Spangled Hamburg, X2. I'm no expert by far, but the chick does remind me of the look of some of the female chicks of that breed that I've seen.

In regard to your other question, we also purchased RIR from Mc Murray in early June as well, so here is our little mystery chick received with our last order:

Best that we can determine about our mystery chick so far... he is possibly a Brahma? I have heard it said that many of the mystery chicks end up being male (not all though), so I'm guessing we may possibly have a little roo in the making.

Our exotic added to our first order of RIR hens was the only chick in that flock who passed (within the first 3 days), and that chick was a very black, tiny chick that looked like some sort of Bantam. He never had any energy from day one, and always needed the lamp heat, even though he ate, drank and we made sure his vent was clear. He just seemed so much weaker than the others. You just never always know why some chicks don't always make it.
