WHAT BREED IS THIS GROCERY STORE CHICK?

This is awesome and it’s so cute how you were able to create a chick and then a hen from a grocery store egg! Is she laying yet?

There is a niche market for fertile eggs that is a part of the wider market for pastured or at least free-range eggs.
She just started laying this week at 18 weeks and three days of age! Very light tan eggs which initially I thought were from my Silkie but it turns out she was the culprit!🥰🤣

I guess my query would be why there’re fertilized eggs available at the grocery store in the first place. 🤣 is there a market for them in some capacity in your area? I don’t think I’ve ever seen fertilized eggs in stores here... :)
Actually most egg producers produce them.
These particular eggs came from a huge egg producer in Petaluma, California. Many grocery chains carry them. I think back in the 70’s it became in to eat fertilized eggs as people thought they were healthier.😊

I see that you’re keeping great records!! What a great addition to your egg basket!

Will be fun to see what her egg production will be next summer!
I keep track of everything. I have a science background and the family thinks I’m obsessed! Maybe I am just a little… But I think I’m in good company here.😂❤️

That is awesome!

It’s great that the interest in eating fertile eggs is still there!

Hens in battery cages can’t produce fertile eggs, but hens out ranging with roosters can. :)

Just so long as there aren’t so many roosters that they harass the hens....
