What breed is this guy?

That's the odd thing. The bottom of his feet are half white, half dark. Either way, it indicates that he does have white skin. Black birds almost never have white legs but the foot bottoms tell what color the skin is.

Looks like cross between a Birchin Marans and a Black Copper Marans.

Probably is. His hackles are golden while the spots on his wing coverlets are deep mahogany. Either way, I'm sure he's mixed with something not quite right.

i dont see marans in it at all, maybe similar coloring to some marans color but if it was a marnas mix or a mixed color marans it should have white legs with light feathering (could have no feathers as some marans dont have feathered shanks)

Agreed, and point taken. I saw all those pictures but keep in mind he's young and the colors are just coming in. The pullet was exactly the right color for a marans pullet and the other was similar in color to this guy, but with more of it. I agree that he's mixed and not a great breed example of anything. But marans is the closest he comes to matching.

Gotta keep in mind what hatcheries do sell in assortment packages, which is what he came from. I now understand how far off the ideal he is. He's a mutt, but he's a mutt with Marans in him as far as I can tell.

Edit to add: His comb isn't right either. Close up, it has a waffled look to the side. No telling what his dad really was, and the other had a sort of buttercup comb.

The feed store I got him from claims to buy their chicks from Ideal hatchery. Whether they really do or not, I have no idea. Feed store employees aren't always the most dependable for correct information, y'know ;)

I do know that he's none of the breeds I normally see there. You know, BO, Australorp, etc. But sometime they get assortments.

To be honest he looks like a cross that Mt. Healthy was playing with.
I can't remember what the cross was but I know it had Australorp in it because a lot of people got them when they ordered Australorps.

It looks like an Auricauna or an Americana because of it's green feet...and also because I have a hatchery guy who just like yours, in my Leghorn/Auricana order.

His feet and legs are slate, not green. They are the same color as my black orps, including the bottoms being white. Yeah, he's a mutt. Wouldn't surprise me if he was that mix chris09 mentioned. He's a big guy and has a nice chest on him. I'll have to cull him but I think he's going to be a big handsome guy. Already he's as tall as my 8lb bbs orp hens and with huge feet that the picture doesn't really do justice to.

His coloring just isn't completely in yet. As a chick he was solid black, even the first set of real feathers was solid black. Slowly he's getting more and more color. And all his food appears to be going to framework rather than fleshing out so I'm sure it'll be a while before he's close to whatever size he will eventually be. Some others the same age, a few layers, look to be mature next to him.

Edit: "nice chest" - from the side it's not spectacular but from the front it's wide and squared off nicely.
