What breed is this hen?

I got this hen last fall from a lady who was selling her chickens and I have no idea what breed she is. She is a plump, healthy looking bird with just a tiny, stubby comb. Right now she is broody and laying on eggs. Most of our other hens are hatchery white leghorns and Rhode Island Reds. We have a black jersey giant rooster, so it will be interesting to see what the chicks will look like! The hen pictured is really a fine bird though, and if I could figure out what she is, I would probably like to get more of her kind and start moving away from the hatchery leghorns.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone! After looking up some pictures of Partridge Wyandotte chickens, I agree that she looks quite a bit like them. She is a nice looking hen. Her, my black Jersey Giant rooster and a pathetic looking mixed breed white chickens are my favourites out of my flock of 17 chickens. Hopefully I can find more like this hen sometime as she is my only chicken that wants to hatch eggs.

RIR and leghorns are not known for broodiness. That's part of what makes them desirable layers. There are many breeds that will go broody. Cochins are a good bet but add some variety and you will probably have one or two that want to hatch eggs. I just had a maran, brahma, orloff and cochin all go broody at the same time. Sort of annoying when they hog the popular nesting boxes and steal the eggs the other hens lay.
