What breed is this rooster

Straight combs are common on any straight comb breed. There are many chicken breeds that do not have straight combs. Comb type does not coincide with sex, unless you’re cross breeding for that. Someone above said he could be a Dominque, but that breed does not have straight combs, whilst he could just be a poorer quality Dominique, it’s unlikely.
That is so true, I have Amerecuana rooster with rose comb but he breeds Rhode Island reds and some of the cockerels that have hatched have had the rose comb while others ended up with straight combs, just depends on how they contributions from both parents joined I would say, the only thing they all have in common is the muffs, as well as the leg coloring, but as i'm not breeding to sell them it doesn't really matter. they are always fun to guess though, as I've had barred rocks and it doesn't look like barred rock that's why I suggested the others, could be hatchery quality which they don't care so much about quality

Yes, but overall the most popular breeds usually have straight combs. Rhode island reds, barred rocks, orpington, leghorn, they typically have straight combs. This doesn’t really apply for this breed, but, it couldn’t be a dominique unless like you said, it would be a poor quality, again unlikely. It could be a barred rock, california grey or a cuckoo maran. These breeds all typically have straight combs unless bred otherwise.

a lot of the hatcheries are cross breeding too , and most popular is subjective, and dependent on the area where people live. here the pea comb is more desirable due to our brutal winters.

Hi there,
I am new to the group and to raising chickens. We were given the neighbors chickens upon their move and one is a rooster. I’m not sure of many of the chickens breed and will figure them out I’m sure.
But, I do want to know what breed this beautiful rooster is? He seems fine around us, only once I thought he came at me a bit agresaice but for the most part he seems to mind his own business.
Anyone have an idea of his breed?
Thank you so much!!

Where did you get him? This might help with the quality issue.

You have a barred rock rooster.
I would say Cuckoo(sp) Marans or Dominque, sorry that's best I can do as haven't personally seen either just pictures
Wrong leg color for marans, wrong comb type for Dominique and the pattern/coloring is more consistent with barred roo than cuckoo
His patterns look to thin and for a barred rock, they have more a more solid pattern, and california greys also have that yellow beak and legs. Straight combs are most common on roosters.
Comb type is not a sex linked trait

Ameraucana do not have rose combs they have pea combs. Also if you're getting single combs at all from his offspring he is not a purebred Ameraucana and is more than likely an Easter Egger.

What a pretty boy! And I would have also said Barred Rock (but I'm not a chicken breed expert and know that Barred Rocks are speckled like he is). If he does come at you aggressively again, try picking him up and holding him a bit. Pet him nicely and tell him he's not the boss of you ;). Usually this will let the rooster know you aren't intimidated by him.
