***black cochin banty(dad) X black tailed buff japanese(mom) I think its this one

or

grey japanese X buff cochin banty

These are pretty good guesses, I mean I am pretty sure of them.

His feet look fine. They have feathers on them so they look different from this angle.
Someone educate this person so they can look at the bird's feet and tell for himself(herself maybe?) whether they are deformed or not.

He should have three normal straight toes in the front of each foot, with a claw on the end. Middle one is the longest. There should be one short toe on the back of each foot, also having a claw on the end of it. Silkies or silkie crosses, and some other breeds, have two toes on the rear of the foot.

Those are good guesses tiki, looks like a cochin or cochin cross to me for sure. Looks like his tail is growing in right now, and cochins have little poofball tails. Very interesting really.

Thanks Lawrence

The poofiness would lead me to believe it is a cochin cross. And the shape too. And the feathers on the legs. And the legs are not black (which would indicate silkie, which its not)

The Japanese has short legs and also a large breast area, and large comb.

The columbian pattern of the BTB Japanese would bring out this color pattern when crossed to a black bird.

And the gold color would lead me to believe it is a buff Japanese.

The tail apparently has taken after the cochin. The neck area and the long wings look very Japanese. The comb looks large as in a Japanese. Also because you said it is a small bird.

I believe now the color of the bird (the one in the picture) would be called a gold birchen.

Its a very pretty bird.

you say gold birchen and very well may be, I think extended black at the e-locus but missing the necessary melanizer to make the adult bird black. I say he is Extended black/birchen split.
I do think he is a crossbreed.

but we are just guessing. who knows?
