Hi everyone!

My husband finally let me start my backyard flock after 8 years of asking lol. We hatched a small barnyard mix in April and then gained a few extra barnyard mixes to the bunch. I think I might know what most of my chickens are but this one has me lost! My son chose her. She is quite a bit taller than my others which includes Australorp and Pheonix(I think 😬)and has big beefy legs, when she jumps down it is a big sound! She has a gorgeous green sheen to her and not much comb! She has a fairly long beak and looks like she could eat you. She's perfectly friendly and will come eat out of our hands although she does not like to be pet or handled. I have no idea how old she is, she was one of the spares we got. I don't think she's laying yet.

Any ideas?! Thanks!

I didn't even think about it being male 🤦🏼‍♀️
Our neighbour who gave them to us was fairly certain they were all female.

You can tell that he's a boy by looking at the pointy feathers by the base of the tail. These are called saddle feathers, and the saddle feathers on a male chicken are long and pointy, while the ones on a hen are rounded like normal feathers.

when they’re young, it will be less obvious from the photo, but it’s a good pointer (pun intended 😉)

Thank you! This just put a reminder in my head. I knew this, but I think I just needed a reminder to jolt my memory. I was just going off the assumption it was female. My bad!!
