Thank you! This just put a reminder in my head. I knew this, but I think I just needed a reminder to jolt my memory. I was just going off the assumption it was female. My bad!!

Not everyone! I’ve only gotten my cockerels on purpose...well, no I take that back, Bruce was a mistake made on purpose

Our neighbour who gave them to us was fairly certain they were all female.

The comb and wattles are quite small, which may be why the neighbor thought it was a female. But some breeds just do have smaller-than-average combs and wattles. (example: Sumatras and Chanteclers.)

(I'm not positive about the gender. I agree with the people saying that only males have pointy saddle feathers, but I tend to have trouble seeing feather shape on photos of black chickens, so I am not sure whether your chicken has them.)

I zoomed in on the pics and the saddle feathers were pointed.

Likely not, I'll find a home for him. I have 2 other cockerels which is the reason we got more pullets to begin with haha! I hatched the other 2 and I'm quite attached to them. One is a phoenix mix and one is a frizzle mix.

Ooh, those sound like gorgeous chickens. Have those guys started crowing yet? If not, just prepare yourself if you're a light sleeper.

Phoenix roos are FABULOUS, as are frizzles. Good luck finding a home for your handsome boy!
