I think he’s a cockerel, as like with BPR’s, males are lighter. But it would be easier to confirm if you post pictures of your other Marans.

It is lighter and it’s pattern is more uniform because it is a cockerel

As others have posted, he is a cuckoo marans cockerel; hence, the difference in barring and color. The second bird pictured is a pullet.
