Same boat - I purchased Silkies and got this sweet surprise. Lil’ critter has an adorable, sweet temperament. Sits in your lap for a cuddle and pet. We’re newbies so been wondering on that one. So, looks like we got a rooster in the hen house! . Thanks for clearing that up for us. Any one have any idea of the breed though? I’d like to get more of this type. He’s so sweet!

It's an easter egger. Cockerels are usually very friendly for a bit. It's best not to hold him or cuddle him because that can create a mean rooster. You'll need to make sure he understands you're in charge and hes not.

In my experience with roos, that doesn’t work out. Maybe it will make an already aggressive roo bolder, but it definitely will not turn a friendly roo into an aggressive one. A few of my most aggressive roos were raised by other people who didn’t handle them at all.

Oh, ok. I've only seen from the outside looking in, never have owned a rooster. I'm sure some of it also depends on the breed. I learn something new everyday here though.

Here is our EE No muffs or beard, but also no waddles this was when she was about 8 weeks old in the first photo, there are a few of her from today. she lays beautiful light blue eggs.
