Okay so we were given these two for free to get our flock started a little over a year ago. We were told that they were bought from a TSC bin labeled blue Wyandottes. This hen is laying near duck egg sized eggs regularly(single yolk!), and after getting our hands on a gold laced Wyandotte rooster, this guy is huge in comparison. I know wyandottes can carry the single comb gene, but at this point I'm almost positive they were mislabeled. I'm at a loss as to what they could possibly be though. Any advice or thoughts are much appreciated!!!

I'm thinking the hen is a Sapphire Jem. What are the color of the soles of her feet though?
The rooster I believe may a Blue Rock, not entirely sure though.

The soles of her feet are yellow, but honestly that's what I was starting to think after looking at pics of sapphire gem eggs. We've always said that no one lays an egg like her, the rest of our hens are all Wyandottes. I hasn't looked in to blue rocks though, I'll have to look more into that.

Then I do believe she's a Sapphire Jem, if I recall correctly they have yellow soles of their feet.

The more I look into it, the more I agree with you. I also found this painting, and this is almost exactly the size difference between this rooster and the wyandotte rooster. They're maybe 3 months apart in age.

Well now that we've hatched out 20 chicks just to find out they're not full wyandottes...that kind of throws a kink in the breeding program 😅. We've just hit our first full year with chickens. Now I understand why a friend said my rooster reminded her of her barred rock 🤣
